Seven winters in Alaska. More than 4,000 miles of trail. A lifetime of stories to paint.

My work is rooted in experiences that have stayed with me — travelling through Alaska and the Arctic with sled dogs, encountering wildlife in remote landscapes, and observing the extraordinary relationship between animals, people and place.

I don’t simply want to reproduce what an animal looks like.

I want to capture movement, energy and the memory of being there — sometimes allowing the image to emerge from loose marks, unfinished passages and abstraction.

Other works draw upon my Persian heritage, bringing wildlife together with pattern, symbolism and questions of culture, conservation and belonging.

Wildlife meets pattern, symbolism and cultural heritage inspired by colour, movement and theme.

These paintings explore our relationship with endangered species, place and identity, drawing in part upon my Persian heritage and the decorative traditions that surrounded it.

Swans Taking Flight

I had spent hours trying to perfect the reflections in the water.

And it wasn’t working.

Eventually, frustrated with the painting, I stopped trying to control it. I began dragging and splashing paint across the surface.

Something changed.

The painting suddenly had the movement and spontaneity I’d been trying to achieve.

Swans Taking Flight became an important turning point in my work — the beginning of the approach that continues through my paintings today.
